ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® of Southern California founding chapter was formed in 1919 by Anne Banning and developed as an outgrowth of the Red Cross Shops established in World War I. It became the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization begun in the West to recognize the potential of volunteers in helping those less fortunate to a better, more meaningful life.
NATIONAL
ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® was organized in 1935.
NATIONAL ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® now has more than 24,000
volunteer members in 108 chapters, 91 adult auxiliaries,
39 ASSISTEENS®
auxiliaries and 7 guilds across the United States. In
the year 2000-2001, these members volunteered more than
3 million service hours and approximately $27 million
was returned to the respective communities through diverse
philanthropic projects. These projects touched the lives
of over 1,100,000 men, women and children.
ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Saddleback Valley was organized in 1985 and has more than 200 volunteer members. Our clients include needy children, seniors, abused women and children, needy families and bereaved parents of infants.
